Capt Prakash Correa, a maritime luminary and Vice President Operations of Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd., left for his heavenly abode on June 23, 2022.

His sad demise has indeed left a void in the industry. One can truly say, the maritime industry has lost its light (Prakash).

Son of the late John and Nelly Correa, husband of Una, father of Prabhir and Sailee, brother of Capt Pradeep / Priya and Capt Pramod / Erlene, he was one of the leading lights of the industry.

Capt Correa, the respected doyen of the maritime industry, started his sea career in 1979 and moved ashore in 1993.

He started working for the Transworld Group of Companies handling their NVOCC operations and the operations of their ship owning division, Orient Express Lines. He moved to Varun Shipping in 1996 and was responsible for setting up their Gas Carrier division.

Capt Correa joined Great Eastern Shipping as Operations in Charge, handling Tankers and bulkers and steadily progressed to the position of Head of Tanker and LPG operations.

Before his demise he had also forayed into academics by conducting online classes for students appearing for extra Masters.
